Before leaving New Zealand to live in Singapore three years ago we thought of the city of Auckland, as home. But to those overseas New Zealand becomes one, rather than a collection of small cities. We now feel a sense of belonging and connection to New Zealand that we didn’t have before we left. The bush and the mountains have called us back, and below are stories of how we re-kindled our New Zealand trail running love affair.
Our New Zealand fastpacking escapades took place in May, the height of Autumn and the start of winter. We would recommend touring a bit earlier in the year, but the timing suited us.
Travel around the country by car is by far the easiest, and accommodation on the trail is almost exclusively managed by the Department of Conservation.
