“Fastpacking” is a combination of trail running and multiday-hiking. This means packing all our clothes, gear and equipment into tiny little bags that we can carry for at least 2 weeks (we’re ‘luxe-ing’ this up for ourselves by hitting trails that will allow us to run between established accommodation points).
Our project will allow us to sample a huge variety of long distance hiking trails starting from a cold muddy New Zealand autumn in May 2016, through a blisteringly hot European summer before busting our lungs in Nepal.
We’re aiming to cover roughly 20 to 30km per day on trails set-up designated for hiking. However, don’t be fooled! This isn’t any old athletic adventure you see in a glossy magazine… We’re not pros. We aren’t charting the unknown. We’re not fast. But we’re giving it a go!
So far, opinions about the project range from “that’s ridiculous!” to ‘severely-underwhelmed’ … with very little in between.
